Fukushima progress report by Yuki, a staff of Atlas Tours
Yuki reports a lot of progress in the recovery effort.
Progress is uneven, but it is happening everywhere. Extremely devastated areas are still struggling with clean up and rebuilding, but much effort has been made to get the areas proper functioning as normally as possible. Life is rebuilding in the devastated area, Yuki said. The rubbish place is well organized, typical for Japan. A Morning Glory or Goya blooming in the area bring a great sense of hope and of joy, where s saw houses broken like splinters on the streets, and protective blue mats holding down walls or roofs of buildings. - 22 Aug. 2011
As one man said, “I want to rebuild not for myself but for the children.” That forward-looking attitude, so much larger than oneself, is a motivating factor uniting us all.
'Kizuna'meaning "Bond" chosen as kanji character of 2011
In Japan, the people choose one kanji character that represents the society’s sentiment regarding the year that is coming to an end. The most voted character in 2011 had been 絆 (kizuna), which means “bonds”, normally used when talking about the bonds and collaboration among people, friends, family…
We think 2011 was the year which made us think about the connection between people. No one is able to live oneself.
We have bonded together with friends around the world.
